Abudi Awaysheh

Abudi completed all of his post‑secondary education in Canada, reflecting his commitment to Canadian academic standards and values. A graduate of two Canadian law schools, he has been litigating since 2012. He has represented family law clients in court and unionized employees at labour arbitrations across Canada, including all three Territories and every province from BC to Ontario. Trusted within BC’s Arabic‑speaking and Sunni Muslim communities, Abudi is the province’s most academically accomplished Muslim lawyer. Known for navigating complex power dynamics in family and workplace disputes, he brings over 14 years of litigation experience, rigorous training from three Canadian universities, and a lived understanding of the immigrant experience. Born and raised in Damascus to Jordanian and Syrian parents, Abudi attended the U.S. State Department’s American School in Damascus from childhood, becoming fully bilingual in English and Arabic before moving to Canada at 17 to begin university. As an immigrant who earned four academic degrees and became a lawyer, he represents a level of diversity, drive, and academic excellence that is rare in the legal profession. His achievements reflect a determination to succeed despite the barriers newcomers routinely face, often outperforming peers who had the benefits of local systems and greater privilege. Abudi serves as Treasurer of the Umbrella Multicultural Health Co‑op in New Westminster.
