Deanne Kasokeo is known as a tenacious fighter who protects her client’s interests and advocates for the best possible outcome on a wide range of issues that affect her clients. Deanne has been a practicing lawyer for over 15 years and has worked primarily for First Nations people assisting them with criminal law, family law, child protection, labour and employment law, wills and estates, governance and law making with First Nations. Ms. Kasokeo has also been legal counsel to three First Nations providing legal guidance and assisting with building institutions of good governance with First Nations and assisting on negotiations at the provincial and federal levels of government. Deanne has appeared before the Provincial Court, King’s Bench Court, and Federal Court, as well as the labour board, and in adjudication with the IAP Residential School files representing hundreds of clients across the Country. Ms. Kasokeo also is a published playwright, of her controversial play, “Antigone” written in 1997 and produced at the Globe Theatre in Regina, SK in 1998. She also wrote another play entitled “Truth Hurts” that focused on the intergenerational effects of residential schools that became the pivotal moment when she started her law degree. This particular play was stolen by a theatre company and Ms. Kasokeo fought for her copyright back winning in Federal Court documenting the poor man’s copyright to prove her written play was hers. That same year in 2002, Deanne began her law career and has been helping her people since. Deanne is dedicated to her people and the work she does for them in any capacity.
