The trial of Chris Higgins, former member of the P.E.I. Liquor Commission Board of Directors, has once again been delayed.Higgins was charged with impaired driving last September. He was removed as a director of the commission after being convicted earlier this year of illegal use of a credit card.The trial was supposed to proceed Friday morning. It was the second time the Crown had witnesses travel from New Brunswick for the trial.It was postponed when Higgins's lawyer, Laura Spurway, suddenly asked to be removed as counsel with no explanation.Crown prosecutor John McMillan was upset at the delay and suggested that Higgins is delaying the inevitable.Judge Jeff Lantz directed Higgins to hire another lawyer immediately. The court will set a new date for the trial next Thursday.Higgins is also a former Liberal Association Riding president in Charlottetown. It was postponed when Higgins's lawyer, Laura Spurway, suddenly asked to be removed as counsel with no explanation.
