During a four-day trial that wrapped up last week, Ronald Murphy admitted to stabbing his 44-year-old roommate with a steak knife in the kitchen of their Redwood Avenue home in March 2015, but successfully argued he never intended to kill him. Murphy testified in his defence, first blaming the stabbing on someone else — another man who was home at the time but who was not involved in the fight, the judge found — before he admitted to stabbing the victim once. “I believe that Mr. Murphy was trying, to a certain extent, to be honest before this court. That is why he admitted to stabbing (the victim) once, but he did not tell me the whole truth,” Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Sadie Bond said as she delivered her decision Tuesday.
