Thomas W. Fraize K.C., a native of Newfoundland and Labrador, was admitted to the Bar of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1982. He received a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Memorial University in 1977 and an L.L.B. from the University of New Brunswick in 1982. A Barrister, Solicitor, and Notary Public, Thomas was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2006. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association, as well as past chair of the Real Estate Committee of the NL Bar. Thomas served on the Legal Appointments Board from 2008-2016 and the Trust Rules Committee of the NL Law Society. Fraize Q.C. has acted as Crown Counsel – Federal Standing Agent – and continues to act as Defence Counsel in criminal proceedings in Provincial and Supreme Courts. Having extensive experience in Real Estate/Commercial/Contract/Property Law, Thomas has represented clients before many Administrative Tribunals, including, but not limited to, Landlord and Tenant, Workers’ Compensation Tribunal, Revenue Canada Appeals, Municipal Appeal Boards, Liquor Regulatory Boards, and Immigration Boards, as well as Provincial Court, District Court, Supreme Court, Unified Family Court, Court of Appeal for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Federal Court. A former Lecturer at the College of the North Atlantic, Thomas continues to give seminars, presentations, and training sessions to such groups as the University of New Brunswick Law School, the Appraisal Institute of Canada, Crown Lands, the Federal Department of Fisheries, the Provincial Department of Natural Resources, the Land Resource Stewardship Division, the Canadian Coast Guard, Credit Union Central of Newfoundland and Labrador, numerous credit unions, the Business Development Bank, the Association of Funeral Directors, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, the Multi-Cultural Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the City of St. John’s Assessment Division.
