H. Wade MacLauchlanCMOPEI(born 10 December 1954), is a Canadian academic administrator and former politician who served as the 32ndpremier of Prince Edward Islandand leader of thePrince Edward Island Liberal Partyfrom 2015 to 2019. He also served as the fifth president of theUniversity of Prince Edward Islandfrom 1999 to 2011, and has been the seventh modern chancellor of theUniversity of New Brunswicksince 2023.[1][2] Wade MacLauchlan was born on 10 December 1954 in Stanhope, Prince Edward Island, as the third of five children of Harry and Marjorie MacLauchlan.[3]He went on to earn an undergraduateBachelor of Business Administrationdegree from theUniversity of Prince Edward Island, followed by aBachelor of Lawsfrom theUniversity of New Brunswickand aMaster of LawsfromYale University. In the year following graduation fromUniversity of New Brunswick Faculty of Law, MacLauchlan was awarded a clerkship at theSupreme Court of Canada, where he was the sole law clerk for JusticeWillard Estey.[4]
